Design Strategy Branding

After establishing a trusted relationship with HackerOne working on their marketing campaigns, they entrusted us with branding their signature global live-hacking events.

the challenge

Design unique new identities every six months for live hacking events that take place all around the world.

the goal

Propel H1’s dominance in the ethical hacking sphere by bringing the best of the best together to root out vulnerabilities for companies like Sony, Amazon, and GM.

the approach

Extend the brand to mascots for each event that draw on pop culture and event location to create a novel representation for each event.

First stop: Singapore. We focused on the island nation’s legend of the Mer-Lion to be our first h1 event ambassador.

Don’t forget the merch

H1 live hacking events are a thrilling mix of camaraderie and competition. HackerOne flys in elite hackers from all over the world to compete against each other (and have a good time all the while). As such, there has to be merch aplenty, pomp, and prizes.

Over $1 million in bounty cash has been awarded at these events, with Verizon Media paying over $400,000 in bounties during a single event in San Francisco.

We went on to conceptualize and create custom illustrated brands and characters for many additional events over the course of the next 3 years.
